Join local maker Rupert as he discusses his practice which involves wild clay and glazes.Â
His practice is inspired by both foraging for and processing by hand wild clays and other natural materials - specifically linked to the creation of functional ceramics that have a connection to the material culture of their area of origin.
For example, wild Devon clays forming cider bowls and beakers, and Isle of Islay boulder clays forming whisky tumblers and associated water jugs.
For those that are asking, what is wild clay?Â
In this context it is a naturally occurring clay, that has been found and dug by hand in the landscape; leaving minimal & ideally no trace at all of our actions.
The session will give opportunities to discuss the ethics, practicalities and narratives when engaging with this exciting approach to potting.
For anyone that attended in 2023, this will be an updated and evolving talk based around the changes in Rupert's practice over the previous year.
