Siobhan Joan @siobhan_joan_ceramics

Siobhan Joan makes minimal and functional wheel-thrown ceramic pieces that are designed to be held and used daily, objects that aim to be beautiful but functional. She is currently focusing on making her ceramics practice more sustainable by developing glazes that use ash glazes from foraged plants and raw materials that are more abundant, easier to mine and more local ingredients. Siobhan studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and is a self-taught potter. Her ceramics have been featured in Country Living Modern Rustic magazine and shown at Timothy Hawkins Gallery Hereford and Bristol Guild of Applied Arts.

Meryl Thomas @persephonesdesigns

Persephones designs is the creative vehicle for ceramicist Meryl Thomas. Meryl produces beautiful handprinted ceramics from original and limited designs. These are inspired by Meryl's fascination with the confluence of the natural and mystical worlds and the simple beauty associated with flora and fauna. All items are either thrown or handbuilt by Meryl. Meryl applies techniques and colours inspired by the great makers of the past and is a particular devotee of the Delft style of decoration though she often combines this with contemporary design and creative techniques.

My work is a mixture of utilitarian ware and one-off stand alone items. I start my work thrown on the potters wheel and then prefer to decorate or alter them by hand. My approach is often intuitive leading to an exploration of shapes, surface textures and colours. My aim is to produce a piece of work that speaks for itself. It is beautiful and a pleasure to handle thus reminding us of the thrill of possessing a unique object.

Melody Carter @edgarstreetpottery

The Edgar Street Pottery is a small studio at my home in Edgar Street, Hereford. My work is hand thrown for domestic and decorative use, with my glazing styles inspired by the city and countryside around me. I believe that as people we are innately creative and curious about making and so I enjoy sharing what I have learned as a teacher with those who want to try the wheel for the first time and those who want to improve their throwing practice. Making pottery for home use is such an ancient craft based simply on earth, human hands and fire, but provides affordable, durable material objects that bring pleasure both to gaze at and for everyday use.

I started my ceramic journey in 2016 upon seeing my eldest son playing with mud outside in my back yard. I have always had a soft spot for clay since I was young. I started potting in 2016 , and have come a long way. I took part in the great British pottery throwdown 2024. I have also completed two ceramic glaze technology courses which means that I'm capable of making my own stable ceramic colours. My work is mostly designed to be used in and around the kitchen and home.

Hannah Christie @stiwdiohan

My current practice draws from historical ceramics such as Ancient Greek Amphorae to create hand-built vessels that explore themes of frustration and my experience as a neurodivergent person. I also work with the raku firing process. This perspective of the world as a neurodivergent person and the way in which I interact with materials and objects underpins my creative practice, manifesting in richly textured surfaces created by the use of reactive slips and glazes in stoneware firing. Inspiration from my body and scoliosis continues to influence the forms I make, resulting in sculptural pieces or vessels which are curved, wonky, or appear unbalanced.

My ceramic art explores the human relationship with nature. I am inspired by the often-overlooked fauna and fungi that play vital roles in balancing natural ecosystems. I use a combination of hand-building, modelling and wheel-throwing techniques to create richly textured sculptures as well as decorative homewares and wearable art. Pieces that straddle the line between the functional and decorative. My work is inspired by coastal environments such as tide pool habitats and geological formations. Thrown and sculpted elements are combined with impressions of coastal textures and materials collected from the landscape. I work from a shared studio in Bristol and am a part time ceramics tutor and technician, as well as a member of Bristol Clay collective.

I make unique handmade ceramics and ceramic jewellery from high-fired porcelain in my home studio and I make fine jewellery from sterling silver and ethically sourced gemstones. My work is inspired by nature, animals and fairytales full of whimsy. I hand sculpt and hand paint each and every piece myself in my little garden studio in Hereford, England. My work is all completely handcrafted and individually handmade, without the use of any casting or moulds; meaning each one is completely one-off. My aim is to create one-of-a-kind beautiful pieces to be cherished and loved for a lifetime.

Erosion and weathering, geographical and geological change, shape, form, time and decay within nature, all provide inspiration for my smoke fired ceramic work. Contrasts feature prominently; contrasting shapes, surfaces, colours, techniques and processes. Spiky and smooth, light and dark, controlled and unpredictable – it is through the tension of these contrasts that I ultimately create the balance within each piece.

All my pieces are handmade by me in my home studio in Herefordshire, using a reconditioned traditional kick-wheel, the ultimate eco-friendly way to throw! I work with stoneware clay for both its durability and aesthetic qualities. Whilst the stoneware clay has a textured Scandinavian finish it can also withstand everyday use and is both dishwasher and microwave safe at moderate temperatures. Handmade ceramic pieces are the ultimate in slow living, with many different processes from start to finish, sometimes taking several weeks to be made. For me the process of transforming a lump of clay into a mug, bowl or vase is second to none.

I love the versatility and the endless possibilities that clay provides. Pottery has given me a medium through which I can express myself and my creativity. I throw all of my pieces on the pottery wheel because I love the immediate response your actions have on the clay. I am fascinated by the personal connection between the maker and the material. My passion for ceramics has driven me to constantly explore new ideas. My collection of tableware has been thoughtfully curated to bring people together and to create memorable shared experiences. Distortions within the pieces act as a reminder of the maker's hand and provide a connection between the maker and the user as well as being designed to provide comfort when passing around and sharing food.

As a maker I am interested in the interconnected nature of materials and our connections with those materials. My recent work has been exploring the reciprocal interactions between bodies and forms, which has been done in clay through carving and leaving unglazed surfaces. This texture and sensorial interaction at the point where our bodies encounter these objects' bodies, is intended to create a deeper experience when using the pieces. As someone who translates their work across 2 and 3D, the surface of the pot is akin to a canvas for me, painting and revealing parts of this canvas is for me one of the joys of taking a piece from bisque to glazed.

The textures and colours of collected stones, pebbles and rock formations inform my current work. Using traditional hand building techniques and a variety of clays I construct complementary ranges of tactile vessels whose surfaces reflect the smooth and the weatherworn. Experimental use of slips and glazes create finishes that range from highly polished to cracked and crazed. The unpredictability of smoke firing, obvara and horsehair raku are used for their ability to give subtle and unique markings. Monochromatic colours unify the pieces into a cohesive collection.
